NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP IN ATHLETICS - ROVERETO

Italian National Championship, edition number 104. The maximum tricolour exhibition takes place for the first time in Rovereto, Trentino, from Friday 18th to Sunday 20th July. 1034 athletes enrolled, 535 men and

499 women, representing 181 clubs in the Country. An element that numerically - based on the latest federal regulations that has increased the attendance by allowing the B winners or the best ranked among the regional championships - will make the next edition a numerous competition, the most athletes since 2000. Just think about Turin in 2006 ( last "leader" among the top list of 15 Italian events) when 927 athletes attended (453 men and 474 women), whereas they were 864 (429 men and 435 women) during the previous event set in Milan. In percentage, the increase is +11,5% compared with Turin 2006 and +19,7% compared to Milan 2013.

In Rovereto, the most popular competition is the hurdling with 66 participants (39 men and 27 women) at the 400hs entry-list, followed by the 56 participants (31 men and 25 women) of 3000-meter steeplechase and the 55 participants ready at the starting blocks of 110hs (27) and 100hs (28) events. There will be 58 race walkers (30 men and 28 women) that will face a 10 km event, whereas there will be 55 hammer throwers (23 men and 34 women).

At stake 44 championships (22 men, 22 women), included the combined events of the decathlon and the heptathlon scheduled on the opening day, Friday, when it will be announced the Tricolore 2014 participants of the race-walk. The event will assign the Italy Cup, i.e. the team trophy which lends the right to take part in Club World Cup Championship the next year. In 2013 the winners were the Fiamme Gialle men (then became European Champion for the third time in a row) and the Army women.
